How many calories should I eat a day if I am trying to lose weight?

The first thing to understand is that calories are not necessarily bad things. A person receives energy from the calories he eats and drinks. The problem arises when more calories are being ingested than are being worked off. For most women who are trying to lose weight through healthy eating and exercise, a 1,200-calorie diet is recommended. Because men typically burn more calories, it is recommended they eat 1,800 calories a day. A little more or less probably will not hurt, but to truly be healthy it is important to not go to extremes just to lose weight.

Which kind of running is better for you? Sprints or distance?

How about both? For general cardiovascular health, it can be very helpful to get on the track, trails, or treadmill and run a couple of miles. But if you are hoping to build more muscle tone, then sprinting is definitely a better option. For best results, it is recommended that a person do both of these exercises. A person who focuses on running distance should take some time once or twice a week to run a few sprints and vice-versa.

I find it hard to make time to get to the gym. Is there anything I can do during the day to get a better workout?

The first thing you need to do is resolve that it is important to you to do all the little things that will add up to better health. This means that you need to commit yourself to swearing off the elevator and taking the stairs. This also means that you commit yourself to taking a walk during lunch instead of sitting down at a fast food restaurant. You can also tighten your stomach for a few seconds at a time periodically as you sit at your desk. All of these small things will add up to a better you.
